On Saturday, April 26th the Männerchor called in the Spring season with their annual Maifest.  A day full of German food, music, tradition and community. All things that ACGC loves!

The guests were entertained by several of the local singing societies.  Under the direction of Katie Bretz, The Columbus Kinderchor, delighted the audience dressed in their Dirndls singing lovely songs about Spring, Fruit Salad and more!  The Germania Hauskapelle filled the air with beautiful sounds of brass instruments playing traditional songs.  And as always the Männerchor lifted us all with their spontaneous drinking songs!  

Fun Fact: Katie once taught at German School Columbus and several of her singers attend the school as well​!

Kartoffelkuchen, Currywurst und Brezeln, Oh my! The air was filled with the smell of delicious German food.  And guests could enjoy homemade baked goods from the Männerchor's very own Harry Voith.  Several drinks and vendors to choose from, but the pièce de résistance was the Maibowle, made with Austrian wine in tribute to the Männerchor president's home sweetened with Waldmeister Syrup! ​

Children could make their very own Mai Pole in the Kinderecke, raffle prizes were called every 20 minutes including two giant, delicious cheese cakes from Harry's bakery, there were games such as axe and star throwing and the Germania Volkstänzer (Dancing Club) even shared specials dances as they decorated the Mai Pole.

It was a beautiful day to come together with friends and family to celebrate the start of Spring.  Mark your calendar for next year's Maifest at The Männerchor

OGLS is ringing in the new year with a new name! Since 2011, OGLS has been under the guidance and support of the American Center for German Culture (ACGC).  ACGC is a non-profit organization that seeks to preserve, promote and protect all things German and German-American through culture, connections and community.  We, as a German Language School have been a big part of their mission and this year we will share their name.  Starting in 2025, our name will be ACGC German School Columbus.  With this new name comes a new logo! Check it out!
